Cabin History
The cabin at Hume Lake (Lot 80) has been a blessing in the lives of our family since we purchased it in 1961. Our family has also been very blessed by the ministry of Hume Lake Christian Camps.
Our family has had a rich family connection with the ministry of H.L.C.C. Jake and Mary Gerbrandt, Pauline’s parents, both worked on staff in the early days of the conference grounds. Pauline and Jon also worked on staff, and their daughters, Lisa Leeger and Susan Leinen, have worked on staff and also been campers. Our granddaughters, Anna and Mary, have worked on staff, and our grandson, Tim, was a student at Joshua Institute for one year.
Over the years, we have rented out our cabin almost every summer. This has helped us to partially offset our expenses. More importantly, sharing our cabin with others has offered them the opportunity to become more acquainted with the ministry of the camp. One family came to Hume for the first time, and purchased a cabin during their stay at our place. Several other families have purchased cabins at Hume after staying in our cabin. The children of several families who stayed in our place have gone on to become full time staff in the work of Hume Camps.
We are also very happy to share with others the beauty of the National Parks and surrounding forest, and the blessings of the quiet and relaxation that can be enjoyed in that surrounding. There is also much to be enjoyed from the special speakers and music that the conference provides without charge to those who come up to spend time in the cabins of the homeowners.
It is our hope that those who spend time up at our cabin will learn to appreciate the work of God in this place, and to learn more about how God is changing lives through this ministry. We hope that that learning will result in support and love of the work from those who use our home.
